337 2006 Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon

The first thing you notice is the smell, the 'nose' if you will, it comes on strong, but not unpleasant. Spicy? Peppery? I don't know, but interesting. Definitely has presence, you notice it. It has an interesting taste sequence too. It has a thin to medium body, so it kind of slightly coats your mouth and spreads the flavor. It ends slightly dry, which I normally don't like, but because of the complex flavor, it's okay. You could do worse. Not bad; given the choice, I'd like to have a little more body to smooth it out. It's definitely drinkable. Buy it, try it, enjoy it.

Ombu 2007 Malbec, San Rafael Valley, Argentina

I couldn't get another bottle of the Rigal Malbec, so the lady at Whole Foods recommended this as a good alternative; not so much. At first taste, a light fruitiness comes through but doesn't last. It's thin body lacks any complexity and finishes on the dry side with a flat - blah. Move along - nothing to see here. Have to find some more of the Rigal - that's worth writing about and recommending - this isn't.

5 Mile Bridge 2006 Syrah, Margarita Vineyard, Paso Robles

At first taste, this wine is a little light and thin. There really isn't much fruit flavor that stands out. It's just flat, thin, with a dry finish. If you see this on sale, keep right on going and pick up the 2005 Zinfandel.

This is the first French wine I've ever liked. Every other one has been too dry, too thin, and mouth-puckering.
